Skrillex headlined STORM Electronic Music Festival in Shanghai, China this weekend with an eclectic set. Skrillex, real name Sonny Moore, shared the stage with Alesso and Afrojack, among others. Playing for an hour, Skrillex drew from many genres of EDM to create a high-energy performance.

Skrillex included his own hits, such as Bangarang, and his well-known remixes. Refusing to rely solely on his own catalog, he included quite a few hip hop cuts, such as Kanye West. Skrillex rounded out his set with many Jack Ü and Diplo tracks to highlight his collaborations. And peppered in for good measure was some festival fodder like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

Skrillex is a true master of reinvention. Beginning in emo punk pop, he singlehandedly made dubstep popular half a decade ago. Just when that genre became oversaturated, he switched gears and entered into the world and trap genres. He\’s especially found enduring success with Jack Ü, his project with Diplo.

Perhaps the most-travelled DJ worldwide, Skrillex flies from show to show without ceasing. This stop in Shanghai shows the pervasiveness of EDM internationally. China is known for its absurd censorship laws, for instance removing some tracks from an innocuous Kylie Minogue album, so for Skrillex to play in Shanghai was a triumph for artistic freedom in its own right.
