Lauren Lane. A talent. A creator of great music and even better vibes. This past EDC NY, I had the pleasure of sitting down and getting to catch up with this lovely lady. Be sure to check it out.

\"ScreenWhen did you realize that you wanted to dedicate your life to music?

Lauren Lane: I think it was a natural evolution because I studied instruments as a child like the flute and I also studied dance. It\’s been kind of in my blood. And when I turned 15-16, I went to a club and saw a dj for the first time. DJ culture was much more mysterious back then. I was captivated instantly and wanted to know everything about it. Now though, DJing as evolved due to social media and everything that you do is displayed and broadcasted to everyone. Before it was more of a discovery but now you can experience anything like a live-stream from your phone. It\’s definitely all very different now but I still believe in the experience and being there for the moment.

How did you end up finding what style works for you?

Lauren Lane: I just loved percussion and drums and I honestly, just followed my heart. I took a balance between deep house and techno sound. The way I found it was that New York city in itself is so influential, hearing the rich history and influence of the music, it becomes instilled in us. I appreciate all the different genres and I feel like a deep, groovy, happy sound is what I like.

If you could collaborate with anybody, dead or alive, who would it be?

Lauren Lane: I would have to say Jimi Hendrix.

If you\’re super avid on being \’in the moment\’, what are your thoughts on DJ\’s preparing sets ahead of time?

Lauren Lane: I don\’t ever plan my sets because all crowds are different. My objective is to make the night fun. I like a bunch of different genres, but it makes it a challenge to gauge the vibe of the crowd. As a DJ you should be a giver and not have a pre-programmed set. This is a collective effort, it\’s about us, so let\’s vibe.

What is your favorite thing about EDC?

Lauren Lane: I think it\’s really great for New York because they don\’t get many festivals due to the fact that it\’s a very club-driven city. It\’s super cool to bring it here and the stadium and to have the production here? It\’s incredible.

Thanks so much Lauren for taking the time to chat with us!
