tomorrowland 2017 brasil

Tomorrowland Brasil, the South American version of the Belgian EDM festival Tomorrowland, was cancelled. Announced today, to the disappointment of Brazilian EDM fans, Tomorrowland Brasil\’s 2017 installment is a no-go. However, fans were assured it will return in 2018.

Given the reasons for the cancellation, a 2018 return seems doubtful. Staged by promoter ID&T, Tomorrowland Brasil\’s demise is officially blamed on economic uncertainty in Brazil. The economic instability resulted from political upheaval in the country, including their former president\’s impeachment just this year. However, ID&T is owned by parent company SFX Entertainment, a giant in EDM promotion. That company filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. It appears these two factors made a perfect storm that ended with Tomorrowland Brasil paying the price.

The flagship event, Tomorrowland, is still the premiere festival in the genre, heralded as the most important, and certainly the highest-attended, event. It is still going strong, with the world\’s best DJs spinning over two weekends in September.
