The staff at Music Festival Wizard have recently crunched the data from 5.7 million music festival fans to determine the most popular festivals of 2016. Their method was simple: To gather the total number of online visitors to each festival\’s website from July 1 to December 31, 2016. Which sounds a lot to us like this: the so-called top festivals of 2016 translates to the most crowded festivals. Makes sense then that California has a heavy presence on the list, rounding out 5 of the Top 10 spots.

Some notable mentions in the Top 50 include (12) Lollapalooza, (14) South By Southwest, (15) Electric Zoo, (21) Electric Forest, (24) Okeechobee, (27) Imagine, (31) MysteryLand, (36) Euphoria, (39) Sonic Bloom, (40) EDC Las Vegas, and (43) Burning Man.

Overall, it was a good year for rookie fests — especially Florida’s latest entry into the festival market with Okeechobee. There’s dozens of genre-specific festivals for country, electronic, metal, and jam. But when it comes to hip-hop, the festival world falls short.

The MFW50 is divided up into the three most popular music festival regions: North America, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe. Check out which festivals round out the N.A. TOP TEN below. Be sure to check out the full article for top abroad festivals.
